Welcome to the Skeena-Nass

The Skeena-Nass Region is wealthy in forests and other natural resources. Historically, the forest economy has been based on the production and export of commodities. A series of boom-and-bust cycles over the past four decades has proven this to be an unsuccessful model in the region, and recent developments provincially are indicating that this model may be of concern elsewhere in BC.

It is time to review and recreate the basis of the resource economy in the Skeena-Nass. The combination of terrain, infrastructure, and available resources fibre in the Skeena-Nass makes this the area to pilot and test solutions. Solutions that work here will work anywhere in BC, and this is to the benefit of all British Columbians.

We’re about finding sustainable solutions for our resource economy. In the Skeena-Nass region, that means we have to try, and try again. We have to Rethink, Recreate, and Reinvent. We have to innovate.

And that’s why we’re the Skeena-Nass Centre for Innovation in Resource Economics.

Our acronym is SNCIRE, which our supporters affectionately pronounce as “sincere”.

All Wealth Comes from the Land

Whether working and commuting in a mega-city, or trying to feed a family in a war-torn third world country, or living in peace and tranquility on a tropical island, the source of all of the world’s needs and wants ultimately comes from the land.

- Every cell phone, every transmitter, every bridge, every train, every home is built from minerals and materials that come from the land

- All food and fresh water comes from the land

- Tourism resorts are based on the beauty and bounty of the land

Once we truly recognize that the land is the true source of the wealth of the world, we can change how we think of the land and increase our investment in it.
